Waar lag Deshima?
Deshima, ook gelatiniseerd als Dejima, (Japans: 出島, in de 17e eeuw ook wel 築島, Tsukishima, “Eiland dat uitsteekt”) is een voormalig kunstmatig, waaiervormig eilandje van nog geen anderhalve hectare in de haven van Nagasaki in Japan.
Wat haalde de VOC uit Japan?
De export bestond vooral uit goud en zilver en ook wel uit porselein. De zeer voordelige zilver export werd in 1668 verboden. De VOC stapte toen op goud over. Ook de export van koper was belangrijk.
Wat maakte Dejima Nederland zo belangrijk?
Dejima (ook bekend als Deshima of Decima, Japans: 出島, uitstekend eiland) was een klein, kunstmatig eilandje in de haven van Nagasaki, Japan. Het eilandje is zo bekend, omdat het van 1641 tot en met 1859 een Nederlandse handelspost was. Deze handelspost was het enige contactpunt tussen Japan en Europa.
