Waar woont een alligator?
Alle soorten leven rond de evenaar: in Afrika, grote delen van Zuid-Amerika, Midden-Amerika, Zuid-Azië en het noorden van Australië. De groep echte krokodillen komt voor in Afrika, Midden-Amerika, Zuid-Azië en Noord-Australië. Alligators en kaaimannen komen voor in Zuid- en Midden-Amerika en in en rondom Florida.
Hoe snel kan een alligator lopen?
Kom je per ongeluk een alligator of krokodil tegen, of komt een dergelijk dier op je af, ren dan zo snel mogelijk van het dier vandaan. Zo snel als ze in het water zijn, ligt de topsnelheid van een krokodilachtige op het land op slechts 17 km/h, een snelheid die de meeste mensen over korte afstanden kunnen overtroeven.
Hoe snel lopen dieren?
Het snelste landdier is het jachtluipaard, ook wel bekend als de Cheeta. In minder dan 3 seconde kan hij van 0 naar 100 km/uur versnellen. De topsnelheid ligt rond de 105 km/uur. Dit houden ze overigens niet lang vol, ze rennen meestal maximaal 60 seconde per sprint.
