Hoe werkt cisplatine?
Cisplatine, (PtCl2(NH3)2) is een cytostaticum, een middel tegen kanker, dat door middel van het leggen van crosslinks (dwarsverbindingen tussen de strengen van het DNA) de DNA-synthese in de cel remt. De stof is ook bekend onder de naam cisplatinum (medische invalshoek), of cisplatina (meer chemische kijk).

Dit medicijn heeft een krachtige werking op de celdeling, niet alleen van kankercellen, maar ook van gezonde lichaamscellen. Hierdoor kunnen bijwerkingen ontstaan, bijvoorbeeld op plaatsen waar de cellen zich van nature snel delen. Dit zijn de slijmvliezen van mond, maag en darmen, de huid, de haren en het bloed.
