Waar ligt de Amazone regenwoud?
Het Amazonewoud ligt verspreid over negen landen: Brazilië, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru en Frans-Guyana. 3. Het immense woud wordt wel ‘de longen van de aarde’ genoemd. Ongeveer twintig procent van de zuurstof van de aarde wordt door de bomen van het Amazonewoud geproduceerd.

Hoe is het Amazone regenwoud ontstaan?
Het regenwoud ligt in een bekken dat grotendeels door de rivier de Amazone en zijn 1100 zijrivieren wordt doorstroomd. Dit Amazonebekken werd gevormd tijdens het Paleozoïcum, tussen de 200 en 700 miljoen jaar geleden.

Op de bosbodem leven grote zoogdieren zoals de tapir en okapi. In de bovenste lagen leven slingerapen, toekans en parasitaire planten.
