Waarom heet Eclair?
De eclair stamt uit het Frankrijk van de 18e eeuw en heette daar oorspronkelijk ‘pain duchesse’ of ‘petite duchesse’. Het gebakje wordt ten onrechte toegeschreven aan de kok Marie-Antoine Carême, wat onmogelijk is gezien de spuitzak toen nog niet bestond. Het woord éclair betekent bliksemschicht in het Frans.

What is a French Eclair?
The French Éclair is known around the world, it is one of the greatest cakes ever! Éclair means “flash of lightning” and quite why it’s called that is not 100% known but many say that it is an old joke of pastry makers that the éclair is eaten “in a flash”!
