Waarom demonstreren de truckers?
Het protest was geïnspireerd door het Freedom Convoy zoals in onder meer Canada wordt gehouden. Daar zijn truckers al weken aan het protesteren. De reden was dat het huidige coronabeleid in dat land chauffeurs zonder vaccin niet toelaat de grens over te steken. Inmiddels is de actie overgewaaid naar Nederland.
Waarom protest Canada?
De politie in Ottawa is begonnen met het oppakken van truckers en andere demonstranten. Die houden nu al drie weken het centrum van de Canadese hoofdstad bezet om te protesteren tegen de coronamaatregelen van de regering van premier Justin Trudeau.
Waarom demonstreren de vrachtwagenchauffeurs?
De vrachtwagenchauffeurs protesteren tegen de vaccinatieplicht die op 15 januari is ingegaan voor chauffeurs die op en neer reizen tussen Canada en de VS. Zij moeten volledig gevaccineerd zijn om weer te mogen terugkeren naar Canada.
