Hoe ontstaat CAA?
Wat is CAA? Cerebrale amyloïd angiopathie (CAA) is een aandoening waarbij de kleine en middelgrote bloedvaten in de hersenen beschadigd raken. Dit komt door samenklontering van het eiwit “amyloïd-bèta” in de bloedvaten. Hierdoor worden de bloedvaten zwak en kunnen ze makkelijker breken of scheuren.
Wat betekent Amyloidose?
Amyloïdose is een verzamelnaam van ziekten veroorzaakt door een abnormale opstapeling van eiwitten (amyloïd) in verschillende lichaamsdelen en organen. Zowat alle organen en lichaamsdelen kunnen aangetast worden.

Tongue enlargement does not occur in ATTR or AA amyloidosis. Deposition of amyloid in the throat can cause hoarseness. Amyloidoses can be considered protein misfolding diseases.
What increases my risk of amyloidosis?
Factors that increase your risk of amyloidosis include: Age. Most people diagnosed with amyloidosis are between ages 60 and 70, although earlier onset occurs. Sex. Amyloidosis occurs more commonly in men. Other diseases. Having a chronic infectious or inflammatory disease increases your risk of AA amyloidosis.
