Het verhaal van Bordertown draait om de gerenommeerde rechercheur Kari Sorjonen (gespeeld door Ville Virtanen). Nadat zijn vrouw Pauliina (Matleena Kuusniemi) ternauwernood een hersentumor heeft overleefd, verhuist hij met haar en dochter Janina (Olivia Ainali) van Helsinki naar het plaatsje Lappeenranta.
