Wat is het Schengenverdrag?
De Verdragen van Schengen (gezamenlijk ook wel bekend als het Verdrag van Schengen of Akkoord van Schengen) zijn verdragen tussen een aantal Europese landen om het vrije verkeer van personen mogelijk te maken. Het grondgebied van deze landen vormt de Schengenzone.
Wat zijn non Schengenlanden?
Het Schengenverdrag is in vier EU-lidstaten nog niet in werking getreden: Roemenië, Bulgarije, Cyprus en Kroatië. Tegelijkertijd maken vier landen die geen lid zijn van de Europese Unie, wel deel uit van het Schengengebied: Noorwegen, IJsland, Zwitserland en Liechtenstein.
