Inhoudsopgave

What extensor compartment does the anconeus belong to?
The anconeus muscle belongs to the superficial extensor compartment, along with the brachioradialis, extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis, extensor digitorum, extensor digiti minimi and extensor carpi ulnaris muscles.
What is the function of the anconeus?
The anconeus is a small muscle located at the elbow. Attaching to the humerus and ulna, this muscle permits extension of the forearm and provides support for both the dorsal joint capsule and the ulna itself. The hero that allows the anconeus muscle to perform all of those functions by contracting is the radial nerve.
Is the anconeus muscle active during elbow extension?
Attaching to the humerus and ulna, Although the anconeus muscle is active during elbow extension the importance of the anconeus for the movement itself is probably very small. The Triceps brachii muscle is by far the major muscle responsible for elbow extension.
Is the anconeus part of the forearm?
Some consider anconeus to be a continuation of the triceps brachii muscle. Some sources consider it to be part of the posterior compartment of the arm, while others consider it part of the posterior compartment of the forearm. The anconeus muscle can easily be palpated just lateral to the olecranon process of the ulna.
