Wat is het verschil tussen cataract en glaucoom?
Glaucoom is namelijk een ziekte waarbij de oogzenuw aangetast is. Dit wordt meestal veroorzaakt door een verhoogde druk in de oogbol. Door het afknellen van de oogzenuw wordt de verbinding tussen het oog en de hersenen langzaam beschadigd. Bij grijze staar (cataract) is de ooglens troebel.
Is staar hetzelfde als cataract?
Staar (cataract) is een vertroebeling van de ooglens waardoor uw zicht minder scherp wordt. Zonder behandeling kan dit tot ernstige slechtziendheid leiden. De ooglens zit direct achter de pupil in het oog. Normaal is de lens helder en doorzichtig; hij bestaat uit water en eiwitten.
Kan staar erger worden?
Het is wel realistisch om rekening te houden met een staaroperatie in de toekomst. Staar wordt nooit minder, het gezichtsvermogen gaat langzaam maar zeker toch achteruit. Is (beginnende) staar eenmaal ontdekt, dan is controle nodig als de klachten erger worden.
Do Cataracts cause glaucoma?
