Why was Nico kicked out of the Velvet Underground?
Reed fired Warhol as manager in favor of Steve Sesnick, who convinced the group to move towards a more commercial direction. Nico was forced out of the group, and began a career as a solo artist. Her debut solo album, Chelsea Girl, was released in October 1967, featuring some songs written by Velvet Underground members.

Overlijden. Nico was een groot gedeelte van haar leven verslaafd aan heroïne. Ze overleed in 1988 aan een hersenbloeding als gevolg van een val van haar fiets tijdens een vakantie op Ibiza.
