Wat is een tonsil?
De keelamandelen of tonsillen bevinden zich in de keelholte en werken als een soort filter die binnenkomende ziektekiemen kunnen bestrijden. Keelamandelen kunnen herhaaldelijk ontsteken of zelfs voortdurend ontstoken zijn. We spreken dan van tonsillitis of angina tonsillaris.
