Inhoudsopgave
What is liquefactive necrosis of the skin?
Often it is associated with focal bacterial or fungal infections, and can also manifest as one of the symptoms of an internal chemical burn. In liquefactive necrosis, the affected cell is completely digested by hydrolytic enzymes, resulting in a soft, circumscribed lesion consisting of pus and the fluid remains of necrotic tissue.
What causes liquefactive necrosis of the brain?
When bacteria or fungi enter the body, they may make their way to the central nervous system and cause damage to the cells of the brain, potentially progressing to liquefactive necrosis. Liquefactive necrosis can be caused by a bacterial infection. Additionally, this condition may be caused by reduced blood flow to the central nervous system.
What is the pathophysiology of liquid necrosis?
Liquefactive necrosis is often linked with an abscess formation, most frequently in the brain. Abscesses are swollen areas in the body that are filled with pus and other fluids.
What is liquefactive necrosis in dogs?
Liquefactive necrosis is characterized by softening of the necrotic tissue to the point at which it transforms into a pastelike mush or watery debris. Margaret A. Miller, James F. Zachary, in Pathologic Basis of Veterinary Disease (Sixth Edition), 2017 Liquefactive Necrosis.
