Wat is chorea?
Chorea is een aandoening waarbij sprake is van onwillekeurige, vloeiende, niet-ritmische bewegin- gen. Deze bewegingen komen het vaakst voor in het gelaat of aan de handen en voeten, maar kunnen ook voorkomen in de romp- en rugspieren.
Wat is Hemiballisme?
Deze bewegingen zijn proximaal in de ledematen met grote amplitude, vaak unilateraal en vergezeld van chorea. Ballisme wordt ook wel proximale chorea genoemd. Als dit beeld zich aan één kant voordoet, wat veel vaker voorkomt dan de dubbelzijdige variant, dan spreekt men van hemiballisme.
