Welke testen bij dementie?
De MMSE (Mini-mental state examination) is een test die wordt gebruikt als er een vermoeden is dat iemand geheugenproblemen of dementie heeft. Hieruit wordt duidelijk hoe het gaat met iemands geheugen, taalvermogen en concentratie (cognitieve vaardigheden).
Hoe wordt dementie gemeten?
De specialist doet neurologisch en neuropsychologisch onderzoek om de diagnose dementie te bevestigen. Eventueel wordt aanvullend onderzoek gedaan, bijvoorbeeld met een MRI-scan. Ook zal de specialist de ziekte vaststellen die de dementie veroorzaakt, zoals de ziekte van Alzheimer.
