Wat zijn Fibrotische afwijkingen?
Bij longfibrose vormen zich littekens (fibrose) in de longen. Dit littekenweefsel gaat niet meer weg. Vaak verdwijnt steeds meer gezond longweefsel. Het gevolg is dat de longen minder goed zuurstof kunnen opnemen; ademen wordt moeilijker.
Hoe kan je longfibrose krijgen?
Longfibrose kan veroorzaakt worden door inademing van allerlei schadelijke stoffen en soms het gebruik van bepaalde medicijnen. Ook na bestraling (radiotherapie) kan longfibrose ontstaan. Er zijn familiaire vormen van longfibrose beschreven. In veel gevallen blijft de oorzaak echter onduidelijk.

In mild disease, patients present with eyelid retraction. In fact, upper eyelid retraction is the most common ocular sign of Graves’ orbitopathy.

Eyelid surgery is the most common surgery performed on Graves ophthalmopathy patients. Lid-lengthening surgeries can be done on upper and lower eyelid to correct the patient’s appearance and the ocular surface exposure symptoms. Marginal myotomy of levator palpebrae muscle can reduce the palpebral fissure height by 2–3 mm.
