What is 5GHz frequency band?
Summary comparison of 5.1-5.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz bands. The 5GHz frequency band is an unlicensed ISM spectrum commonly used as an alternative to the higher frequency 2.4GHz frequency. This band comprises of 4 RF bands; 5.1, 5.3, 5.4 and 5.8GHz, resulting in 24 non-overlapping channels separated by 20MHz.
What is the range of the Ismism WiFi bands?

What is the 40 MHz bandwidth used for?
When 40 MHz bandwidth is used to gain the higher data throughput, this obviously reduces the number of channels that can be used. IEEE 802.11n 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 40 MHz channels, frequencies & channel numbers. The diagram above shows the 802.11n 40 MHz signals.
Why do we use 2 4 GHz band for WiFi?
It can be seen that the 2.4 GHz band is widely used for other applications including microwave ovens (as a result of the signal absorption in water) as well as Bluetooth, and many other wireless communications applications. Sometimes using other bands can improve the WLAN performance as a result of the lower interference levels.
